Introduction
Year 2,007: Passed the tragedy of the 31.05. 1970, the
Province of Yungay has recovered thanks to the strength
of the survivors and the iron union of its Districts,
those that together conform a true paradise admired by
thousands of tourists, who find variety, climates
costumary, ecological floors, and places of incomparable
beauty and majesty, such as: The Field Santo and the
general cemetery on the old city,
the Christ de Yungay
, the historical hill Sugar Bread, the beautiful
Lagoons of Llanganuco
and # 69, the natural viewpoint denominated the Portachuelo 4.767
mals to located to backs of
the Huascarán
in the White Mountain range, the natural viewpoint Chapapunta to
4.200 m.a.l.s. on the town of Matacoto and
the lagoon of Tecllo in the Black Mountain range. The
snow-covered mount chain constitutes an attractive
singular of the province since snow-covered mounts of
easy ascent like the Yanapaccha can be observed (5.460
m.a.l.s), of medium difficulty of ascent like the Pishqo
or Pisco (5.752 m.a.l.s),
the Chopicalqui (6.307 m.a.l.s) the Majestic Huascarán
(6.768 m.s.n.m.), North Contrayerba (6,035 mals),
Pucarraju (6.150 mals)y Cajavilca (5419 mals); and those
of difficult ascent such as Monte Huandoy (6.395 mals.)
and the
Shapraraju (6.112 mals.).
The Province of Yungay has approx 59.210 inhabitants
(June 2002 in its beautiful and cosy districts of Mancos
(2.507 msnm), Yanama (3.375 msnm), Quillo(1552 msnm),
Ranrahirca (2.451 msnm), Matacoto (2.470 msnm), Shupluy
(2.538 msnm), Cascapara (2.725 msnm) and Yungay (2.458
msnm), those that occupy a 1.361,48 surface of Km2. In
the Province it is counted on abundant farming
production, services of electrical light, potable water,
telephone, hospital, first aid posts, faucets with
fuels, superior schools of primary, secondary education
and institutes, as well as restaurants, hotels, police
specialized for the rescue in high mountain and other
services.
Tourist Circuits:
a) To visit archaeological ruins Pre-Incas of the
Province: Starting off of the City of Yungay pre can be
arrived at the ruins Incas of Huarca where it emphasizes
the construction of Kgeushu that is a ceremonial center
where mts of diameter emphasizes a circular construction
of 6 (10 km.) or it is possible to be gone to Marcayoc
(10 km.) that ciudadela presents/displays a temple
surrounded by one Pre-Inca, the ruins in the hill of
Huamancayan, the vestiges of the strength of the
Huansakay in the old city of Yungay; the ruins of Old
Jato, located Kisuar and ColloJirca near Yanama; the
ruins of located Etzahuain and Ojotunan between Mancos
and Huashcao; Uchuscoto in Cascapara etc. It is
important that the Municipality makes managements before
national and foreign universities (Faculties of
archaeology), so that they make the corresponding
studies about these ruins pre-Incas whose antiquity
would be located between the years 1000 BC to 800 AC and
soon come to his restoration.
b) To revalue the Guitarrero Circuit, that begins very
early going from Yungay to Shupluy, from where, by the
black mountain range, is walked in North direction
during one hour and until arriving at the Cave of the
Guitarrero. This cave along with the one of Lauricocha (Huanuco),
is one of the old vestiges but of the presence of the
Andean man at the time of the beginnings of the
civilization (10.600 years BC), to which there is to add
that Guitarrero is, according to the North American
Thomas Linch, one of the great testimonies of the
origin of agriculture in América. After knowing this one
historical Pre- refuge, and after taking paisajistas
photographies the long walk will be reinitiated towards
this one, and after crossing a suspension bridge place
will be arrived at the hospitable town of Mancos where
it will be rested, it will eat for lunch and take
photographies, soon in afternoon will be walked of
return, towards the north, by an old pack animal road
that crosses the towns of Ranrahirca, Huarascucho and
Santo of Yungay will arrive itself at the Field.
c) In the route Yungay - Yanama- San Luís(Cruce), to the
east of the town of Huashao and Humacchuco, throughout
the gorge of Llanganuco, still the old pack animal road
exists that Great Marshal Andrés To Cáceres used to
arrive at Yanama, during the war with Chile. In the
route Yungay - Yanama- San Luís (it crosses), the
typical food of the place will be able to be taken
photographies to exclusive feature, and to be tasted.
after arriving at the crossing from the highway San
Luís-Llumpa, it will be possible to be continued trip
towards the south to arrive at the City of San Luís
where it is possible to be rested, to supply and to
decide to continue the trip towards Huari and Chavin or

cities of Piscobamba and Pomabamba. Near Llanganuco the

d) a beautiful and easy excursion can be made through
the GORGE OF YANAPACCHA and DEMAND Quebrada Lagoon 69,
located to 7 kilometers to the northeast of the second
Lagoon of Llanganuco (also denominated Orko Cocha), from
where is walked from 3.950 to 4.620 mals heights to,
during approx 5 hours roundtrip.
In order to make this excursion it is possible to be
started off from the city of YUNGAY or the towns of
HUASHAO or
HUMACCHUCO

initiated towards the lagoons of Llanganuco, being able

multicolors, the impressive wall of the North Huascarán
and will arrive at the beautiful lagoon # 69 located on

snow-white SHAPRARAJU or CHACRARAJU. The ascent to this
one snow-covered is single for expert andinistas with
abundant material for escalamiento, because it has walls
with an inclination of 70 to 90 degrees and is avalanche
danger.
